Halldór Warén – 2. júlí
Halldór Warén hefur verið viðriðin tónlist lengi beint og óbeint í gegnum útgáfufyritækið WarénMusic. Hann spilar með orgeltríóinu VAX sem hefur gefið út nokkrar skífur, og árið 2008 gaf hann út spiladósardiskinn Bíum Bíum 2008, ásamt því að framleiða, hljóðrita og spila á hljómplötunni Kjuregej ( Lævirkinn ) sem fékk meðal annars íslensku tónlistarverðlaunin árið 2013.
Mest hefur Halldór framleitt, eða unnið með öðrum listamönnum við þeirra hugarefni, en kemur fram í þetta sinn eingöngu með eigið efni, tónlistin er saminn á 20 ára tímabili og er öll með enskum texta. Með Halldóri kemur fram hljómsveitin Spottarnir sem sett var sérstaklega saman að þessu tilefni hana skipa Óttar Brjánn Eyþórsson, Axel “Flex” Arnarson, Nanna Imsland & Friðrik Jónsson, einnig eru líkur á að gestahljóðfæraleikarar kíki á svið

Halldór Warén has been involved in music for a long time, directly and indirectly through the record company WarénMusic. He plays with the organ trio VAX, which has released several albums, and in 2008 he released the music box album Bíum Bíum 2008, as well as producing, recording, and playing on the record Kjuregej (Lævirkinn), which received, among other things, the Icelandic Music Award in 2013.
Halldór has mainly produced, or worked with other artists on their ideas, but this time he will perform exclusively with his own material. The music was composed over 20 years and features English lyrics. Halldór will be accompanied by the band Spottarnir, which was specially put together for this occasion. Bandmembers are as follows: Óttar Brjánn Eyþórsson, Axel “Flex” Arnarson, Nanna Imsland & Friðrik Jónsson, plus a secret guest.

Olga Vocal Ensemble – Fragments – 9. júlí
Tónleikarnir Fragments eru í formi sögu, sem er áhrifarík og hugljúf en hún fylgir manni á leið hans í gegnum lífið – frá upphafi til enda. Sagan hefst með einangruðum og örvæntingarfullum manni á miðjum aldri og þróast í átt að barnæsku hans – þar sem sakleysi, frelsi og von ráða ríkjum. Hver þáttur lýsir tilteknu æviskeiði og tónlistin endurspeglar stemninguna: þung og kúgandi, eintóna og örvæntingarfull og létt og björt. Fragments sameinar dramatískan kraft með andlegu næmni og dregur áheyrendur inn í sögu sem er bæði persónuleg og almenn.

This summer, Olga Vocal Ensemble will tour Iceland with a brand-new program titled Fragments. The program takes the form of a powerful and heartfelt story that follows a man through the journey of life, from end to beginning. The narrative opens with a man affected by war, isolated and in despair, and gradually travels back to his childhood, where innocence, freedom, and hope prevail. Each part represents a stage of life, with music that reflects the atmosphere: heavy and oppressive, monotone and desperate, light and bright. Fragments blends dramatic intensity with emotional sensitivity, drawing the audience into a story that is deeply personal yet universally relatable.
Guðrið Hansdóttir – 16. júlí
Frábær listakona frá Færeyjum sækir okkur heim á þessum áhugaverðu tónleikum. Guðríð er söngkona, lagahöfundur og tónlistarkona sem hefur gefið út nokkrar plötur á 20 ára ferli sínu. Auk þess að vinna að sólóferli sínum er hún í rafdúettnum BYRTA og söng kvintettnum KATA. Hún vinnur með mismunandi tónlistarstíla, s.s. þjóðlagatónlist, popp, rafpopp, klassíska tónleist og rokk. Tónlist hennar hefur verið gefin út í mörgum löndum og hún hefur komið fram m.a. í Skandinavíu, Evrópu, Bandaríkjunum og Rússlandi.
Gagnrýnendur tóku nýju plötu hennar, “Gult Myrkur” vel og hún vann bæði Færeysku tónlistarverðlaunin 2023 fyrir bestu plötuna og bestu texta.
Hún vinnur nú að nýrri plötu sem mun koma út haustið 2025.
We are happy to present Guðríð Handóttir. Guðrið is a singer, songwriter and musician from the Faroe Islands and has released several studio albums, and her musical career spans over 20 years. Apart from being a solo artist she is also a member of the electro duo BYRTA and the vocal quintet KATA. She works with many different musical styles and genres such as folk, pop, electro pop, classical music and rock. Her music has been released in many countries and she has toured in different parts of the world such as Scandinavia, Europe, USA and Russia. Her latest album “Gult myrkur” was well received by critics and won album of the year and lyrics of the year at the Faroese Music Awards in 2023. She is currently working on a new album which will be out in autumn 2025.
Kevin Ayesh – Piano Masterpieces and Favorites – 23. júlí
Dagskrá bandaríska píanóleikarans Kevin Ayesh er sett saman úr þekktum og dáðum klassískum píanóverkum, m.a. “Pathetique” sónötu Beethovens og “Rhapsody in Blue” eftir Gershwin auk verka eftir Chopin, Brahms, Debussy og Rachmaninoff.
Kevin hefur komið fram í öllum 50 ríkum Bandaríkjanna, auk Kanada og í Evropu, og hefur fengið fjölda viðurkenningar og verðlauna fyrir leik sinn.
Píanóleik hans hefur verið lýst sem “fallega blæbrigðaríkumog að hann “snerti við tilfinningum áheyrenda”. Leikur hans ásamt áhugaverðum útskýringum hans á þeim verkum sem hann flytur, er til þess fallin að ánægjulega og eftirminnilega upplifun.
Pianist Kevin Ayesh presents a program of well-known and well-loved classical piano favorites, including Beethoven’s Pathetique Sonata and Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, in addition to works by Chopin, Brahms, Debussy, and Rachmaninoff. Kevin has performed in all 50 states of the U.S., as well as in Canada and Europe, and is the recipient of numerous competition prizes and awards. Kevin’s manner of playing, which has been described as “beautifully nuanced” and “soul-touching,” along with his engaging commentary on the selections performed, is sure to make for a thoroughly satisfying and memorable experience for all attendees.
Accio piano trio – On fire, light and dark – 30. júlí
Hið austuríska accio piano trio var stofnað í Mozarteum University í Salzubrg árið 2013. Þau hafa komið fram í Evrópu, Bandaríkjunum og Asíu. Í gegnum ástríðu þeirra fyrir kammertónlist gera þau sitt best til að skapa tónlistarlega upplifun sem snertir við og framkallar myndir, tilfinningar og minningar í hugum áheyrenda. Helst flytja þau klassísk verk frá Vín, nútímatónlist eftir ung austurrísk tónskáld og verk sem sjaldan eru flutt, sérstaklega eftir kventónskáld.
Með efnisskrá kvöldins, “On fire, light and dark” kannar tríóið mismunandi andrúmsloft í gegnum meira en 200 ára sögu tónlistarinnar. Fyrst verður fyrsta píanótríó Joseh Haydn flutt, með tilvísun í barkokkhefðina kemur það á óvart með sterkum tilfinningum og tilþrifamiklum, næstu eldfimum endi. Eldur er grunnhugmyndin í verki hinnar kanadísku Kelly-Marie Murphy, “”Give me Phoenix Wings to Fly”. Tónleikarnir enda á hinu fræga og undurfagra Tríó Nr. 2 í Es-dúr eftir Schubert þar sem birta og myrkur kallast á.

Founded in 2013 at the Mozarteum University Salzburg, the accio piano trio has been making music together for more than a decade, performing in Europe, USA and Asia. With a great passion for chamber music, they strive to create unique musical experiences that evoke images, emotions and memories in their audience. The ensemble’s repertoire focuses on Viennese Classicism, New Music by young Austrian composers, and rarely performed works, especially by female composers.
In this programme, the accio piano trio explores contrasting atmospheres and takes us on a journey through more than 200 years of musical history: Starting from the origins of the genre, we hear one of Joseph Haydn’s first piano trios – although still standing in baroque tradition, it surprises with intense emotions and a furious, almost fiery finale. Fire is an essential idea in Kelly-Marie Murphy’s work “Give me Phoenix Wings to Fly”: In three continued movements, roughly symbolizing fire, devastation (embers) and rebuilding, the Canadian composer draws an impressive image of the life-cycle of a Phoenix. Finally, Schubert’s famous Trio No. 2 in E flat major opens a new perspective regarding deep sentiments of light and dark – an epic work of exceptional beauty, but also an emotional rollercoaster from naive “Ländler” joy to profound “Lied” romanticism, sometimes turning to dark sadness. Especially in the funereal second movement it seems as if Schubert already sensed it would be one of his very last works…

Um tilurð tónleikaraðarinnar
Sumartónleikaröð Bláu kirkjunnar var sett á laggirnar árið 1998 af söngkonunni og tónlistarkennaranum Muff Worden sem kom frá Bandaríkjunum til að kenna við Tónlistarskólann á Seyðisfirði. Muff lést langt fyrir aldur fram árið 2006 og er tónleikaröðin haldin í minningu og til heiðurs henni.
Sumartónleikaröð Bláu kirkjunnar árið 2024 hefur notið stuðnings frá Uppbyggingarsjóði Austurlands, sveitarfélaginu Múlaþingi og Síldarvinnslunni.

About the concert series
The Blue Church Summer Concert Series was founded in 1998 by Muff Worden, a musician and teacher from the USA. Muff died in the year 2006 and the series is helt in her honour.
